Subject: Patch work on Hwy 74 in Ascension Parish
Sirs:
Today I found D.O.T.D. workers marking out patches every two to three hundred
feet on both sides of Highway 74. These patches were all located at the
shoulders of the road and were from 20 to 30 feet long.
I was informed that 9.6 million dollars have been allocated to redo Highways 73,
74, and 42. Please tell me that this isn't what we can expect for 9.6 million
dollars.

Subject: Traffic light at 621 and 73
Sirs:
I would appreciate your looking into the timing of the traffic light on highway
621 at Highway 73.
This light does not stay green long enough to allow sufficient vehicles to pass.
At best 6 to 8 vehicles can make it through the light. At times traffic is
backed up halfway to Llandry Road.

Hi Chuck, I complained about this in 2004 and 2005. I was told adjustments had
been made. That intersection is in the process of being redesigned and expanded.
I would assume that this issue would be addressed with the new project. I will
for to State Rep. Eddie Lambert as this is a state issue.
Thanks,
Cheryl

Ms. Landry,
Waiting for the intersection to be redesigned is not an alternative.
This light needs to be retimed ASAP.
I went through there this morning at 7 AM and it took me ten or more minutes to
turn onto 73 from 621.
Any help would be appreciated especially by those who have to go through there
every day.

Is there anything in the works to add traffic cameras to busy intersections in
Ascension Parish?
We sure could use them.

Mr. Tureau,
Thank you for the quick response to my question.
To your knowledge are there any cameras being planed closer to Gonzales proper.
e.g. Airline and Hwy 44, Hwy 30 and Hwy 44, Airline Hwy and Hwy 73, and Hwy 73
and Hwy 74?
These are also just some of the intersections out here that could use them.

No. They have only been installed at the newest of upgraded intersections, such
as Airline at Purpera road (La. 939).

Mr. Wiley,
Do you think intervention by you would help in getting traffic cameras installed
at the intersections mentioned as being "older"? We really do need them to deter
those constantly running the red lights.

Mr. Le Mieux,
The cameras I am speaking of have nothing to do with enforcement of those who
run red lights. The cameras DOTD installs allow for more efficient traffic flow
thru an intersection. I did not mean to mislead. Also because there are so many
other roadway concerns, our past experience is that we can only include these
cameras when we have a construction project within the limits of the
intersection.

Mr. Le Mieux, for your further information, we are not deploying any cameras for
the purpose of detecting redlight runners. In fact, we need a legislative act to
even be able to do that legally, and the legislature has not been willing to
pass this in previous sessions due to concerns of privacy issues. So any
"deterrence" of red light runners due to signal-detection cameras (the only
cameras that we install at signals) would be imaginary rather than real.

Mr. Landry,
Thank you for the quick response to my question.
Why is it taking so long to repair these roads. If you stick to those schedules
both roads will be nothing but one big cold patch. As it is now a person needs
to cross the center lines in order to miss the haphazard patches.
If I remember correctly both of these roads were scheduled to be done last year.
Why the change?

Subject: Re: Why is road repairs taking so long?
The reason it takes so long before we take bids on a project is because
there is not enough funding to overlay or reconstruct all the roads in need of
repair. We have many more roads that need repair than we have funds available to
make the repairs.
According to the schedule from last year the letting dates for the projects
mentioned below has not changed.

What is it going to take to get the traffic lights on Highway 61 from Wal-Mart

One light turns green and when you get to the next one it's red. That goes on
for each and every light.
