Subject: Llandry Road covered with mud
Gentlemen:
I would appreciate someone from your organization visiting the subdivision be
built on Llandy road.
There is mud spread over the road for at least 100 yards from trucks entering
and leaving this construction site.
I believe it is the responsibility of the contractor to eliminate this as it is
a dangerous road hazard. And if not a fine is to be issued.
Matter of fact all of the construction sites need to be visited and all
contractors made aware of this problem. And if not adhered to a fine issued.
In my opinion your organization has been too lax on these contractors with the
hazards they have been creating.

Subject: Llandry still not repaired
Mr. Roux,
On January 11th I reported a repair needed to a freshly repaved Llandry road.
Your response was to put a patch that lasted two days and a promise to have the
contractor repair the problem.
As of today the road is still not repaired other than a second patch by you that
has held up.
I'd be willing to wager if this repair was needed to your freshly paved driveway
that all hell would have broke loose by now.
We paid a substantial amount of taxpayers money to have this road repaired yet
you can't get the contractor to honor his responsibility and fix the problem.
I would suggest that we find contractors that are willing to back up their work
in a timely manner and do away with those that don't.

Mr. Roux,
On January 11th I reported a pot hole on LLandry which your department went out
and temporarily filled with cold patch.
Today February 1st if you go back you will find that there is not one trace of
this patch left. This patch you are using is a complete waste of time, manpower,
and taxpayers money. It does not solidify and dissolves even quicker when it
rains leaving the pothole to grow in size as traffic passes over it.
It would seem to me that you would be aware of this problem and if not you have
been made aware of it now. I would suggest that a new type of patch be used and
or those applying the patch be made aware of the proper way of using it.
Road upgrades and repairs in this parish has become as scarce as hens teeth
since the Hughes administration has been in office. It would benefit all
concerned that what little is being done be done correctly.

Subject: use of an inferior product to patch pot holes
Mr. Roux,
The question here wasn't who's responsibility the repair was but rather why are
you using something that evidently doesn't work or isn't being applied properly.
As bad as the roads are here using this product is costing taxpayers an
exorbitant amount of money if your personnel have to go back every week and
re-patch a patch.
I just wish for once when a question is presented to a parish employee one would
get a straight answer instead of skirting the issue.

The placement of cold mix was only a temporary patch till a permanent repair is
made. This is the responsibility of the contractor who did the road because they
laid asphalt over a rubber wheel mud flap. This is being taken care of.

Ascension Parish D.P.W. has purchased a striping machine
and will now start painting lines on parish roads. Road striping according
to the parish president will be on a priority basis to be decided by the
D.P.W.. If you feel your road should have lines painted on it call Mr. Bill
Roux at the D.P.W. at (225) 621-5730 or email him at
broux@ascension.par.la.gov.
On May 21, 2000 there was a traffic fatality on Boudreaux
Road, a road the parish was put on notice about on April 15, 2000, (see the
Our Roads Page). A copy of the original notice, a follow up to the D.P.W
chastising them for not doing anything, and a letter to a council member
asking it be brought to the councils attention of the D.P.W.'s failure to
act, have all been turned over to the family of the deceased to present to
their attorney. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
It was told to me that employees and supervision at the
D.P.W. were given time off without pay for not doing their job, sitting by
the roadside for a few hours instead of cutting grass. That brings to mind
the riddle, What is orange and black and sleeps 6 comfortably? A D.P.W.
truck! But our trucks are white, Aren't they?
