Subject: Our serious road problems.

To the members of the Ascension Parish Council via The Ascension Parish President:

I would like to bring to your attention that from 1995 through 1998 there were 86, eighty six, traffic fatalities on Ascension Parish roads. Many due to the deplorable condition of the roads that now exist.

This is shameful!

Mr. Marchand has stated to me that one of his top priorities is updating our roads through various projects to make them safer. One of these efforts is incorporated into the 2020 campaign. Another is the widening and repair of others.

I was also informed that the major issue to be discussed at last nights 2020 meeting was the road issue. The very reason I attended.

For those of you who did not attend, whether for political differences, money, peronal feelings, or personal business I say "hang your heads in shame". It is my opinion that those of you who feel this way have absolutely no concern for the safety of the parish residents who put you in office.

For those of you who did attend with intentions of not supporting a major endevour to change the unsafe conditions of our roads, whether for political differences, money, peronal feelings, personal business, or because you feel that taking a few feet of private property is more important than human life, I again say "hang your heads in shame".

The issue at hand here is LIVES ARE BEING LOST. PERIOD. I ask that you put aside your differences, political, financial, or personal, and work together to resolve the problems at hand in a short a period of time as possible. Each day that goes by that these serious safety issues are not addressed and resolved gives the possibility of more needless loss of life. I for one would not want it on my conscience that I was the cause of a death because of political differences, personal feelings, or any other lame excuse.

Some of you have been members of the council long enough to be responsible, either wittingly or unwittingly, for the serious safety problems we are now facing with our roads.

I and hundreds of other parish residents are watching your actions with close scrutiny. I for one will make it my number one priority to make my opinion known that any member of the council not in favor of saving the lives of parish residents, for any reason, does not belong in the position he or she now holds.

I ask that you take the opertunity the recess that was given this 2020 campaign to rethink your intentions, using as a guide that one life, much less eighty six lives and counting, is too many.

Respectfully

Chuck Le Mieux
