Subject: A request to the council
Sir,
In July we will again get
yet another report on deaths and injuries on Ascension Parish roads for the year
2001 published by the
Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department of the Louisiana State
University.
While I have no privy to
inside information about these statistics, I can hazard a guess that the number
of people who died in 2001 on Ascension Parish roads will again be in excess of
twenty.
In the past three years I
have made countless requests to sheriff Wiley for more traffic enforcement in
this parish. The requests have fallen on deaf ears. In fact, three separate
broadcasts by WBRZ Channel Two could not sway the sheriff into action.
I would like at this time
ask that the council make a unanimous request to sheriff Wiley that they are in
fact aware of the horrible loss of life on Ascension Parish roads, and ask the
sheriff for more personnel and equipment to bring to a stop this useless loss of
life. After all it is your constituents who are needlessly loosing their lives.
Hopefully such a request
from the council may help sheriff Wiley realize more needs to be done by him and
his organization to reduce the needless loss of life of Ascension Parish
residents.
