Dear Sir:
With this letter consider the City Of Gonzales put on notice with regard to traffic laws being flagrantly ignored by motorists using the intersection of Highway 44, Burnside, and Cornerview Road.
To be specific the left turn signal allowing motorists to turn onto Cornerview is much too short, in the vicinity of 3 to 5 seconds. This causes motorists to run the red turn arrow putting them into the path of on coming vehicles.
I have approached the D.O.T.D. on a couple of occasions to ask them to fix this problem with no satisfactory results. I now ask you to do the same hopefully with better results.
In the mean time I feel it is the responsibility of your department to better police this intersection to eliminate the flagrant disregard motorists are giving this traffic signal..
It is my opinion that the lack of traffic law enforcement in this parish has contributed greatly to the fact that 157 souls have been needlessly killed on parish roads from 1995 through 2002, dates that closely concur with the present law enforcement administration.
I would appreciate it, and I’m sure the great majority of parish residents would also, if you would patrol this intersection more often to hopefully reduce the carnage running rampant on Ascension Parish roads.
Be advised, if there is any property damage, injury, or death after the date of this notice at the intersection of Highway 44, Burnside, and Cornerview Road because of the safety issues described in this letter that I will do my utmost to bring this notice to the attention of those involved and their attorneys.
