September 12, 2000 Mr. Robert Clouatre Dear Sir: I am sure you’re aware that there is now and has been a crossing guard assigned to the intersection at Highway 74 and Dutchtown School Road, and that this duty is being performed by the Ascension Parish Sheriff Department this school year. It has been brought to my attention that there was no crossing guard present today, September 12th, because the sheriff department was not informed of early dismissal. An oversight such as this, and past experiences with you and your staff, just reinforces my opinion that the school board, and its staff, still does not consider the health and safety of its students a main concern. I would appreciate it if you would personally take it upon yourself inform your staff that in order to insure the safety and well being of students, and their parents, that a crossing guard is required each and every day of school. And, to insure this safety the sheriff department needs to be informed well in advance of any change in dismissal hours.
