November 30, 2000 To the Editors et al Dear Sir or Madam: On September 26th of this year I filed a civil suit against the Ascension Parish School Board to remedy serious safety hazards that exist at the Dutchtown Schools. I felt legal action was necessary after over a year of failed attempts trying to persuade the School Board Superintendent Mr. Robert Clouatre, his staff, and the School Board members to remedy the serious safety hazards. The petition was filed, and copies sent to all who I felt should be made aware of the situation. The lawyer for the School Board, Mr. Jeff Diez Esq. when interviewed by the Advocate made the following statement. “I can tell you that I look forward to zealously fighting this lawsuit and defending the School Board.” It seems as if Mr. Diez’ zeal faded very quickly because on November 27th the court ruled the Ascension Parish School Board in default for failing to answer the my petition in a timely manner. (See the attached petition and order.) I again bring to your attention the complete lack of concern for our students shown by the Ascension Parish School Board, and now their attorney. For those of you who are not familiar with the entire story, you can read about it at my web site, www.inascension.com, on the School Board Page. Sincerely, Chuck Le Mieux
