Mr Wiley

I was well aware of the fact the driver had been ticketed a few hours before the accident. I am also well aware that this is a one in a million event on the part of the sheriff's office and will never happen again.

I am also well aware that if the driver had survived that that ticket would have more than likely been fixed as are far too many in this parish. And that this mindset leads to the speeding and breaking of traffic laws running rampant in this parish.

I am also well aware that your organization does not have the ability to police our roads efficiently. Nor do you have the clout to get more state help to pick up where you fail so miserably.

As for your organizations insensitivity to death on parish roads I bring to your attention my experience with the Ascension Parish Sheriff Office and the fact that after eight months the statements concerning my daughters death were still in the trunk of your deputy's car with no intention of ever being recorded.

I bring to your attention the numerous reports I have made of your deputy's sitting in back of gas stations while speeders pass by.

I bring to your attention multiple sheriff vehicles parked and shooting the fat while traffic laws are being broken in their presence. Or maybe you may have heard the radio broadcast sometime back of the women who called in to report the deputy sleeping in his cruiser in the St Elizabeth parking lot. Her exact words were "But you don't have to worry about him, I drove up and he was dead to the world".

I could go on but I think you get the message. As a sheriff you have failed miserably when it comes to the safety and welfare of parish residents on parish roads.

Want to get me off of your back? Then get off of your butt, get in your fancy sheriff vehicle paid for with parish residents money, and go out and chase the dead beat officers you have away from the back of gas stations, out of doughnut shops, and any other place they are burrowed into and fire them.

Get on your communications system paid for by parish residents money and raise the state police and demand more assistance from them. And if they refuse then raise hell with our state representatives and get them to assist you even if it be political suicide for your future.

Do that and maybe then I will become less of a thorn in your side. Who knows I might even praise you on my web site.

And please don't feel that you need to respond as I wouldn't want this to turn into futile back and forth messaging.

Mr. LeMieux, at the risk of engaging in  open ended, usually futile, back and forth messaging, I will respond to your email today referencing the tragic deaths of three people on 7-14-03 on State of La Hwy 74. ...The photo of a beautiful mother and daughter in the prime of their lives really does personalize the tragic consequences of two vehicles violently colliding..... No, Mr LeMieux, you are wrong when you say that parish and state agencies are insensitive to these tragic occurences. All too often it is law enforcement that is the first on the scene of this carnage and I assure you that this type of repeated exposure to tragic trauma and death takes it's toll. You further assert that parish gov't has "turned a deaf ear" in forcing law enforcement to patrol parish roads and that parish and state law enforcement are" incapable of enforcing the traffic laws"......Perhaps you didn't realize that on that very day of this terrible crash, an Ascension parish sheriff's traffic deputy stopped the driver of this same vehicle with the same three occupants and issued the driver  speeding  and  no seat belt tickets. The officer in question has told me that he will forever remember the little boy in the back seat (now buckled up) waving to him as they drove off. It was clear to me that this tragedy affected his sensitivity. This occurred approximately 2 hrs before the fatal crash and was mentioned in the Baton Rouge Advocate in the article about the crash.........Now I readily realize that you are a regular critic regarding parish traffic issues and your personal loss drives your agenda. I respect that and admit that this has earned you that right, both as a citizen and as a father. With this right should come responsibility. Responsibility to be objective and fair and view facts, not opinion.......I pray for peace for you and your family and look forward to the day that there will be no more times that a law enforcement officer (yes, sometimes a sheriff) would have to knock on a family member's door and deliver a death notification. Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your message.

Victims of an Ascension Parish road

Victims because for too long Parish Government has turned a deaf ear to pleas to step in and force Parish and State law enforcement to better patrol Ascension Parish roads.

Victims because for too long Parish government has ignored the deplorable state of Parish roads

Victims because for too long State Government and its agencies have ignored the dangerous conditions of Parish roads

Victims because for too long Parish and State agencies have allowed unacceptable speed limits to exist on Parish roads.

Victims because for too long Parish and State law enforcement has been incapable of enforcing traffic laws

In the past five years the Parish the State and their agencies have succeeded in ripping  out my heart and the hearts of my family because of their insensitive attitude towards death on Parish roads

An account has been set up to offset medical and burial expenses. Those wishing to make a donation can do so at any Hibernia Bank

There have been 281 traffic deaths from 1995 through 2007 on Ascension Parish roads
